WHEELING

Wheeling is a way of combining numbers so as to increase the chances of winning. When combining numbers, there are more numbers available to match for any particular draw, hence the probability of winning is significantly increased. However the cost of playing the wheels is higher as you increase the numbers to play.

Example

For a game with six numbers to match, we want to play a seven number wheel. The complete wheel will be:

1 2 3 4 5 6

1 2 3 4 5 7

1 2 3 4 6 7

1 2 3 5 6 7

1 2 4 5 6 7

1 3 4 5 6 7

2 3 4 5 6 7

If all the above seven tickets are purchased and any six numbers from the seven are drawn you win the jackpot. In addition if there are prizes for three, four or five matches you will have multiple winning tickets for these matches.

Now consider an 8 number wheel. The number of combinations required to combine the eight numbers in all possible ways increases to 28.

For 9 numbers there are 84 combinations

For 10 numbers there are 210 combinations

For 11 numbers there are 462 combinations

For 12 numbers there are 924 combinations

Playing Cost

As the cost of playing full wheels increases, our pool manager would reduce the number of combinations played by using various techniques. These would include lowering the prize goal, matching requirements and win guarantees. Also filtering the combinations in various ways.

Although the resulting combinations would not guarantee a jackpot win for matching all numbers, multiple winning tickets would result more often.
